Nowadays, four stroke engines are widely used in EFI motorcycles. The cylinder head is equipped with a special valve train, and the gearbox is connected with the crankcase. Therefore, the lubrication system adopts a combination of pressure and splash.

Namely, the crankcase is filled with lubricating oil with a specified amount. After the engine works, the oil pump sucks the lubricating oil and pressurizes it to the surface of high-speed and heavy load parts such as the valve train, crankshaft and bearing through the oil channel;

For parts that are difficult to be lubricated under pressure, lubricating oil splashed by rotating parts such as crankshaft and gear shall be used for lubrication, such as cylinder wall and speed change gear.


Since most of the lubricating oil can be returned to the crankcase and reused after filtering, the generation of carbon deposits and the consumption of lubricating oil are greatly reduced.

It can be said that the lubrication system of the four stroke engine is a complete system, and the advantages and disadvantages of the lubricating oil will have a great impact on the operation effect of the lubrication system and even the engine performance.

Motorcyclists usually have two extremes in their attitudes towards the use of engine oil. They either attach great importance to the quality of engine oil and worry about whether it is necessary to change seasons; However, some riders are extremely neglectful, either they basically do not replace the car or they add a little of the car leftovers to make use of it.

Due to the different working conditions and working conditions of different engine types, the lubricating oil of the matched engine is also different, mainly due to the difference of trace additives. Therefore, strictly speaking, the engine oils of diesel engines, gasoline engines, automobiles and motorcycles cannot be mixed. If you want to say that I must add them for use, it is certainly up to you. The engine will not give you any color immediately.

At present, the motorcycle oil market has become a professional pattern, and you can choose from various brands of 4T lubricants. How to select 4T lubricating oil? It mainly depends on viscosity grade and lubrication grade.

1、 Viscosity grade

The viscosity grade of 4T lubricating oil is similar to that of SAE10W/40. The selection of lubricating oil is closely related to the ambient temperature, especially now the temperature is generally ready to change seasons.

SAE5W/30 grade oil can be used throughout the year in northern areas; SAE15W/40 grade oil can be used throughout the year in the south. Of course, in extremely cold and hot areas, the selection should be made according to the manufacturer's recommendations, not according to experience.

2、 Lubrication level

According to the API classification standard of American Petroleum Institute, 4T lubricating oil can be divided into SD, SE, SF, SG and other grades from low to high. Motorcycle oil should not be lower than SE grade. SF grade is recommended, and SG grade can be used if possible (antifriction and energy-saving type, containing special antifriction and energy-saving agent, forming eutectic compound on friction surface).

Lubricants with viscosity grade and lubrication grade meeting the requirements (the requirements of the factory instruction manual shall prevail) can be listed as the selection object. It is better to choose 4T lubricating oil specially produced for motorcycles by major brand manufacturers.

As for brands, there are many with good reputation and quality in the market. Such as MSC logo components, Mobil Mobil, Esso Esso, Shell, elf Elf, Castrol, Advantee Prince Edward, Copton Compton, B&M Bemont, etc. However, the world famous brands often fake more, so we should pay attention to the identification.

4T lubricating oil is divided into SD, SE, SF, SG and other levels from low to high

Molybdenum friends can choose lubricant brands according to their performance introduction and other people's experience. When purchasing lubricating oil, be careful of counterfeits and shoddy products. Do not lightly purchase the oil products without factory address, production date and quality standard.

Sometimes it is difficult to distinguish the authenticity of oil products from the packaging, which requires users to be considerate in daily maintenance.

First, pay attention to the change of oil color and purity during the 500km journey after changing the lubricating oil. For high quality oil, its chroma and purity have almost no obvious change, while the change of low quality oil is obvious.

The second is to observe the change of oil quality and viscosity after driving 1000~2000km. For high-quality oil, its color is heavy but not black, and it feels slippery but not astringent when touching the fingers; The opposite is true for inferior oils. Therefore, the high-quality oil can be replaced when driving to 2000km; If the quality is slightly poor, it can be replaced every 1000km; The inferior oil must be replaced once confirmed.

Third, pay attention to the engine starting performance, idle speed stability, acceleration sensitivity, fuel consumption, cylinder temperature, exhaust emissions and other aspects during driving. Pay attention to whether the above conditions are improved or deteriorated after using new lubricating oil to judge the quality of the lubricating oil used.
